Black Swan Premiere at Nu Metro Hyde Park

2 February 2011 saw the premiere of Black Swan in South Africa. Nu Metro and South African Ballet Theater hosted media for the premiere of Darren Aronofsky’s masterpiece starring Natalie Portman. This gripping ballet psychodramal drama has been nominated for 5 Oscars.

According to The Guardian:  “Black Swan is ionospherically over the top, and some of its effects are overdone, but it is richly, sensually enjoyable and there is such fascination in seeing Portman surrender to the madness and watch her face transmute into a horror-mask like a nightmare version of Maria Callas. It is exciting, quite mad and often really scary.” If ballet dear to your hear, you owe it to yourself to see this incredibly dark film.

The idea behind the decor and catering was to recreate the darkness of Nina’s psychological state. We used elements of director’s symbolism in the movie to capture the mood and tone and set the scene using mirrors stained in blood like syrups, fragile tulips dunked in solid black vases and beautiful hanging tutus.

The cake was cut in celebration of 10th anniversary of South African Ballet Theatre, wishing them all the best for the future.

The South African Ballet Theatre is the country’s largest professional ballet company and has established itself as a major player in the performing arts with impressive productions of classical ballets, new works by South African choreographers and collaborators across international boundaries.

SABT  Outreach Programme is in place to provide a safe and structured environment for our childrens’ lives to grow socially as well as to introduce them to the joy and benefits of ballet and offer them a potential career in the performing arts.

Personal interests in individual children circumstances enable teachers to understand each child’s specific requirement, in order to mould disadvantaged and vulnerable children in socially responsible and culturally sensitive individuals.
